3 workshops' Reflection

The three workshops I have chosen are architectural drawing, material modelling and fluid though. All of them are the ways people use to communicate in architecture. If we combine these together, we can present our idea in a much more sufficient way. The architectural drawing shows the line work clearly. The model shows the relationship between interior and exterior. Also those charcoal drawings create spaces which have different viewpoints. Those skills combine together could develop various features at the same time.

Week 4

Reflection

During this Fluid thought workshop, I have done various observation drawings. Some of the drawings are quite unusual. All the objects are overlapping, transparency which conveys drawings into motion. The impacts of light, line, tone and observation are became essential elements of the drawings. Using these different types of techniques can join various focuses into the drawing. Thus, my drawings are not only showing the shapes of objects, but also transform the idea of fluidity between the conceptual and the actual when drawing.

During this workshop, we need to draw 2 A4 drawings everyday. This is exercise can develop an improvement of understanding and drawing skill. At the beginning of this workshop, I quite confuse about the type of drawing the tutor recommended. When I was drawing interior and exterior in my sketchbook, I have started to understand meaning of fluidly in drawing. In fact, if this type of drawing compare with plan and section drawing, The feature of them are quite different, but actually they are the same. Both of them are architectural drawings which present the specify idea from architects.

Workshop 2

Material Modelling

‘Transformative Action’ model

Reflection

During the material modelling workshop, I can try to use both balsa wood and grey card to make architectural models. There are some specify model making techniques I have learnt from the workshop. The way of cutting, get rid of the glue and are something seems quite straight forward. However, when I actually doing it, there still some skills I need to explore.
Furthermore, after this workshop I have realised that making model is not just making things the actual building looks like, but also we can transform models into other form. I have tried to develop the skills of using unusual materials to combine with my model. Even cut model into slices can be a way of transform. People who not in this workshop might think we are destroying the models. However, this kind of model making techniques can develop our self expression into the model. I still need to explore the creative techniques in my studies to improve my skill of modelling.

4 Week Drawing Project

Reflection

During this 4 weeks workshop, I have able to draw some detail 2D drawings and 3D perspective drawing. There a many graphic skills we need to develop in this workshop. At the beginning, I thought this workshop is pretty easy. Because I just need to trace some plans and sections for the submission. As I was drawing my graphics, I have found out the drafting conventions and drawing scales are quite challenge for me. Even every single line needs to be fine and accurate. Furthermore, the organic perspective can develop a different point of view of the building from various angles.

As this drawing workshop is one of the architectural communications workshops, the professional architectural drawings can present our own ideas to audiences and clients simply and correctly. My skills of drawing still need to improve for both hands and computer drawings. To keep explore the way of drawings in architectural studies, and then I could achieve a balance between effective communication and drawing impact.
